Repair and maintenance of Nontron knives: give them a new lease of life

Owning a Nontron knife means embracing ancestral know-how. Repairing or maintaining it prolongs its lifespan, perpetuates the magic of having such an object in your hand, and preserves a unique cutlery heritage – a mission that the artisans of Coutellerie Nontronnaise , in Périgord, take to heart.

A restoration workshop open every Friday

Every Friday, the Nontron workshop welcomes knives awaiting repair. Near the manufacturing benches, pieces are deposited for evaluation, overhaul, or repair by the expert hands of the knifemakers.

For any repair request, customers must contact the Nontron workshop directly , in store (Place Paul-Bert in Nontron), by telephone or by e-mail (with photo), before sending their knife by post.

A team dedicated to reception and diagnosis

Upon arrival at the workshop, Amélie and Noémie, the shop's advisors, receive the knives. Benoît Batissou, the workshop manager, then checks whether the work is covered by the warranty and assesses repair options—particularly for older models, which can be difficult to restore.

Solid guarantees and transparent quotes

Nontron knives are guaranteed for life against any manufacturing defects under normal use. Outside of warranty (wear, misuse, lack of maintenance), a quote is sent with shipping and service costs according to the workshop's price list.

Custom restorations and pieces steeped in history

Depending on the knife's condition, the workshop can replace the blade, handle, or rivets. Romuald Lacombe, a knifemaker for over three decades, shares some unique stories:

“Some old yatagan blade models come to us in incredible condition. Sometimes we can only gently clean them to preserve their soul.”

Antique pieces often emerge through inheritance or a move. Some rare models even join the cutlery's internal collection.

A service appreciated by professionals and individuals alike

Restaurateurs using Nontron table knives can have them serviced during annual closures: sharpening, polishing of the handles and refreshing of the personalized engraving.

Prestigious houses also use the Nontron workshop: every summer, the house of Hermès has hundreds of pairs of scissors used in the making of its handbags sharpened there.

And for those who own knives from other brands, the Nontron workshop also offers a sharpening service (for a fee), by appointment, every Friday in the store.
