BOP Tea: The taste of Sri Lanka in its most awakened form – Lokayah

BOP (Broken Orange Pekoe) tea is one of Sri Lanka's most iconic tea varieties. Renowned for its strength, amber color, and broken structure that quickly releases its aromas, it offers a comforting, invigorating, and authentic infusion. At Lokayah , our BOP tea comes from small plantations nestled between forests, mists, and hills.

What is BOP grade?

The acronym "Broken Orange Pekoe" refers to a black tea whose leaves have been deliberately broken . This grade, widely used in the classification of Ceylon tea, allows for a faster infusion and a more intense concentration of tannins and flavors.

Unlike whole leaves, BOP tea is ideal for a morning cup , structured, full-bodied but balanced. It is often used for chai lattes , milk teas or expressive infusions without addition .

Origin and characteristics

Our BOP tea is grown in the Dimbula and Uva regions , known for their contrasting climates and altitudes. These natural factors influence:

  • the color of the infusion (copper to amber)

  • the aroma (woody notes, sometimes metallic, even malty)

  • power (strong theine, lingering taste)

When and how to drink it?

  • In the morning, as a replacement for coffee

  • After a heavy meal, to stimulate digestion
